Lyrics

These are the Lyrics to the song 'What a Night - the 99's'

Well I know you went out
On the town and you danced and you act like a clown
Till the morn, early dawn
You were up until the beat come down

Oh what a night to be alive
Oh what a night to be alive
Woooooah

So get out, sing and shout
I got high as a ceiling only on the feeling of love
Now you’re gone
But you left me believing, I was only dreaming of love

Give me time for one more
It’s on me and we’ll talk about the things we could be
And then three to the four
And now we’re all face down on the floor

Oh what a night to be alive
Oh what a night to be alive
Woooooah

So get out, sing and shout
I got high as a ceiling only on the feeling of love
Now you’re gone
But you left me believing, I was only dreaming of love

Oh what a night to be alive
Oh what a night to be alive
Woooooah

So get out, sing and shout
I got high as a ceiling only on the feeling of love
Now you’re gone
But you left me believing, I was only dreaming of love

I was only dreaming of love
I was only dreaming of love
I was only dreaming of
This is the song i am going to be using for my final music promo video.

Radiohead - No Surprises

Radiohead - No Surprises, is ranked 24th of the 100 Greatest music videos.
This video comes from the album 'OK COMPUTER' which was successful in 1997.
The video is just one shot of an extreme close up of Thom Yorke's
face which looks like he has his head in a glass fish bowl.
As he is singing we can see the lyrics scrolling up backwards as though they are
being reflected from whatever he is looking at off of the 'fish bowl'.
Through the video it then starts to fill with water and he is made to hold his
breathe for almost a minute, creating suspense for the audience as they watch it.
As the bowl is emptied we see his gasp and struggle for air then
he returns back to singing the lyrics that we can see reflecting in the bowl.

Madonna - Like a prayer

Madonna's - Like a Prayer, video is ranked 5th Greatest music video out of the top 100.
This video tell the story of a black man who is wrongly accused of a rape,
which Madonna is a witness to, but she is threatened if she tells anyone by who
really did it, so she runs to the church for guidance.
In the church, Jesus us portrayed also as a black man and this guides
her towards telling the truth about the man who was accused,
and to help set him free. In this video she also makes love to the black Jesus,
causing outrage and controversy within the Catholic church.
Because of the outrage and offence taken in the church,
pepsi withdrew their sponsorship with Madonna, and she kept the money leaving her with millions.

How the music industry works.

A Commissioner is some one who will work for record labels,
they would then send a track that they think is successful to a number of different directors.
The directors will then come up with unique and eye catching ideas for the promotion
of the music video, and then send their ideas back to the Commissioner.
All the directors are still unpaid at this point.
The directors who sends back the most interesting idea,
and that they feel works for the video is then selected and
 given a
 budget
to make the video and this is what the Director will now be paid for.
For many Directors in this competitive business,
their uniqueness and liveliness is dependent on each commission.

Eminem - Stan

This music video ranked 31 in the top 100 Greatest music videos.

The story of the video is about a crazed fan who is obsessed with Eminem,
and gets more and more crazy the longer Eminem doesn't get in touch with him.
the Crazy Fan in this video is Devon Sawa, and he had an important role,
of trying to be in character and lip sync the words perfectly too.
This whole video is very fast and very dark,
capturing the evil atmosphere that the crazed fan is creating.
this song uses a small part from Dido's song - Thank You, and is used as the chorus.
Dido wasn't a very well known star at the time,
but being featured in this song helped her become popular and more known.
I think the message behind this video is showing how
influential the media and famous people can be.

This is the long version of this song showing the whole story.

My Preliminary Task.

This is Maxwell's and my own Preliminary task, I shot the film there for
we have another actor from another group, lip syncing Kiki D's part of the duet.
It took us 1 lesson to film the different shots for the music video,
and another lesson to get the editing and lip syncing perfect.

The Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task we are going to make a short video of us
lip syncing to Elton John's song - Don't Go Breaking My Heart.
This song is a Duet Sung by Elton John himself, and Kiki D in 1976.
For this short video we had to film 3 short continuous takes
of the actors singing but from different angles and and camera positions.
This is to help us prepare for when we do our music video and to practice lip syncing.

The actors we was using in the video were very young compared to
the voices of Elton John and Kiki D, so we used the Glee Cast version of
this song, which has all the same lyrics, and tune,
but is just easier to fit with a young person, and in my opinion more upbeat.

Jamie Thrave

Jamie Thrave, started off by making short films in university, and then went on using
one of his award winning short films to help him get noticed and to get his
'foot in the door' with the production company, Factory Films,
who have helped produce many famous music videos.
Jamie Thrave, is now a Director that started by shooting 3 very low budget music videos with about a cost of £5000 each, which is a very low budget to have for a music video!

Two of his most successful music videos are Radiohead - Just, and Coldplay - Scientist.
Radioheads video 'Just', took 3 days to shoot and cost approximately £100,000.
As well as this videos budget being a lot more then the £5000 budgets he started out with, Coldplays video for 'Scientist' also took 3 days to film, but astonishingly cost DOUBLE of Radioheads video, approx. £200,000!

Radiohead - Just

Colplay - Scientist

Emil Nava

Emil Nava started out as a runner for film production companies.
He first worked for Blink productions and now freelances for OB Managment.

He graduated to Assistant Director where he started to
direct video shoots where he was then signed to Academy.

Academy is the biggest music video production company,
where he worked for Between the Eyes. He now focuses on working mainly for Pulse.

When he began shooting videos for indie bands and labels the budget he would be given would be approximately between £5000- £10,000; Which is not much money to make a music video at all.

His first budget was £20,000 making the video for Kid British's song 'Our House.'

The whole video was filmed in Manchester, featuring all the local people who lived in the area. This music video was filmed, edited and produced all in approximately 2 weeks. 1 day spent filming, 3 days editing, and about 10 days post production.

Kid British - Our House.

Nava has also directed videos such as,
'30 minute love affair' - Paloma Faith
'Picking up the pieces' - Paloma Faith,
'Lego House' - Ed Sheeran
'You need me' - Ed Sheeran,
'RIP' - Rita Ora
'Do it like a dude' - Jessie J
'Price tag' - Jessie J

All of his different videos vary, and he is capturing the artists and songs within his videos.
Look at how different his video for Rita Ora's - RIP is compared to Ed Sheeran's - You Need Me.

2 of Emil Nava's greatest tips!
-Use close up shots on faces where ever you can!
-DO NOT shoot the whole video in medium or long shot.
*& I think these two videos where a prime example of both of these tips and used very differently.
